Today's TMJ4 is Milwaukee's NBC affiliate. In 2004 they underwent a complete rebranding campaign just in time for the 2004 Summer Olympics. With the updated on-air graphics the marketing department wanted to bring their Web site into the future with updated features, content, and of course the new brand.
The dramatic change in their graphics called for a site that was very modern and clean. Similar angles and colors were used for the Web site with a focus on their main news personalities. Along with the updated look we added a content management system that gave the Weather team the ability to publish directly to the Web site, and for every page to be easily updated by the tool as well.
The most impressive feature is that the site layout is completely CSS. The design has simultaneously moved TMJ4 and Journal Communications into the future proving that CSS is a viable option for their Web sites. Separating content from design has made updates very easy while creating a new architecture template that has since been followed within the company.
The result is a site that sets the station apart from its competition while reinforcing the branding and image. The site made its debut in conjunction with the new on-air pieces that launched with the start of "Live at 10" in August 2004. Since then many additional tweaks have been made. Every user that visits the site know how long it is until the next news cast which provides some immediacy to the site, the weather section has added live cams from around the city, and the user experience has become much more meaningful.
