Covenant Healthcare
Interactive Design
Covenant Healthcare has been a reoccuring client since 1999. Former Director of Marketing, Larry Widen, understood the importance of getting Covenant online and while the site has changed quite a bit since then - their goals have not.
In 2000 we embarked on a redesign of their outdated site. Moving the site into a much more flexible template allowed us to create sites for each of the hospitals while keeping a familiar theme and navigation for the user.
Along with the new design Covenant also understood the importance of educating the community. With that in mind Covenant featured live surgeries that were Web cast around the world; including an open heart surgery, breast biopsy, knee replacement, colonoscopy, and the birth of twins.
I produced many of those live surgeries, but witnessing the birth of twin boys was the most exciting. The event had viewers from across the globe and it was the Midwest's first live birth on the Internet. Hearing them cry across the hall was an amazing experience I'll never forget.
Eventually the production of the Web sites were brought back in-house. But I've been commissioned several times since then by Regional Director Cary Zigman. Most recently I've created templates for a Flash slide show and an online chat application. That work has led to many Doctor's looking for customized sites outside of the rigid framework of the current site.
The goals were set very high by Covenant Healthcare, but we rose to the occasion each time. The amazing response to the their community education programs set a precedent that many local, even non-local, hospitals still can not match. And the forward thinking set Covenant apart from its competition. The architecture that I put in place in early 2000 can still be seen in the sites today.
